About Srinivas “Srini” Vishnubhotla

Srinivas “Srini” Vishnubhotla found tango in 2000 and started teaching in 2005. He got introduced to the milonguero style tango when Joan Bishop and Roger Soto, were teaching at the Barbara King Studio, Houston in 2001. He's indebted to Joan for laying a solid foundation in the milonguero style very early on in his tango path

Although his interest in tango grew initially with social dancing in the milongas of USA , his annual tango trips to Buenos Aires since 2008 cemented his passion toward milonguero tango. He considers the world- prominent tango instructor, Susana Miller, as his main inspiration. Along with Susana, a number of local porteños or social dancers referred to as “milongueros and/or milongueras” of Buenos Aires have had a profound influence on him. He has taught in USA, Canada and India. He believes good tango music, tango embrace and tango walking as essential elements for a nice tango experience.

Srini has been teaching milonguero tango along with Lola in Houston since May 2014 and sometimes host milongas, practicas and workshops in Houston. They love to share their passion for tango to anyone who is willing to learn with the objective of dancing till their last breath. Currently, they teach weekly classes on Thursdays and also as guest instructors at local Houston and Texas events.

I started taking tango classes with Lola and Srini back in August 2014, and I am their student presently. Everything I know about tango I received from these wonderful teachers. Their classes are always friendly and very informative; they welcome new students with open hearts and enthusiastically share their own passion for tango. Thank you, dear Lola and Srini,  for constantly encouraging me to continue my lifetime tango journey

Lola and Srini are great dancers and wonderful teachers. They are passionate, lifelong learners of the dance and inspire students to be also. They are warm, welcoming, patient, and attentive.  They take students of all levels and both encourage and challenge them. They have the gift of taking very complex dance and making it fun and accessible for all

Many people are drawn to Argentine tango for its spectacular and passionate-looking figures, like the ones you often see in performances. Social tango is not anywhere as spectacular to look at. It is danced with steps that are fully improvised at the moment, often in a close embrace, and captivates its dancers through the shared enjoyment of the music and feelings. This is the way it is still being danced today in many traditional milongas, or tango dance salons, in Buenos Aires (from where I am writing this), and elsewhere.

There are many teachers, some of which are (very) good, who can teach you tango steps, lots of technique, beautiful (after much practice, that is), and complex figures. But if you are in the Houston area, and if you are interested in learning to enjoy tango socially, and dancing comfortably in a warm embrace, I highly recommend the classes of Srini and Lola. When I lived in Houston, until some years ago, I would regularly attend their classes, where I would always pick up something new or get some fresh insight.

In their classes, they convey their enthusiasm and love for tango, but also explain in-depth the ins and outs of the movements of social tango, without it ever becoming mechanical. In this they draw from their ample experience in those same milongas in Buenos Aires, where both of them are, and have been for many years now, very popular dancers fully integrated into the local community. Their students have found they are eminently prepared for the milongas and many find themselves to be sought-after dance partners.
